Well, sure “phan” relates, but I’m talking about my camp name, Broadway.

I know a lot about musicals. Well, not in general. There are a lot of musicals I know absolutely nothing about. I mean, all I know about Rent is that it’s about some guys who don’t wanna pay rent and have AIDS. And Jesus Christ Superstar might have something to do with jesus? Don’t quote me on that. I could be wrong.

Let’s examine some of my favorite musicals (without naming them) and see

sorta related super OMG fan art. see?? this is what I am reduced to! but oh my god is this not absolutely gorgeous? *dies of feels*

what they have in common.

A legit, historical setting. The plot is rooted in fact and could plausibly have happened. And the musical is based on a book. And there has to be at least a bit of sorrow, other wise it’s dry aka lacking my tears which they frequently and brutally demand . My top two favorite musicals are the phantom of the opera (der~) and les miserables. ANderbgtiuoweribgib

Holy shit guys.

Holy shit.

Oh jgvnbw

Do you know what I just realized?

The Phantom of the Opera was based on the french novel Le Fantôme de l’Opéra by Gaston Leroux

Les Miserables was based on the book of the same title by Victor Hugo. And guess what. IT WAS ALSO FRENCH.

holy crap i have known these two facts forever but am only just now putting them together!

Why am I so fugging surprised by this, I mean [MIND JUST EXPLODED AGAIN] they…

THEY ARE BOTH SET IN FRANCE. Hell, they are both set IN PARIS.

holy crap.

i’m not quite sure of the time periods, but I will further look into this, because I do know that the National Academy of Music (that’s hipster speak for THE PARIS OPERA HOUSE) was actually utilized during some of the french revolutions to store ammo and torture captives and such…
holy hell.

can I just go write my college thesis paper on this?

I will have to look into this.

AND HOLY CRAP I was looking for pictures for this post and I was reading stuff and omg UPTON SINCLAIR (author of The Jungle, which was my entire NHD paper last year. yes the one i am famous for. sinclair is amazing.) made some huge speech in adoration of les miserables. seriously, if I could meet 1 dead historical figure I would be so torn between all these brilliant writers (don’t forget thomas to the jefferson. and thomas paine! genius!) that I would probably just die on the spot.

What was I talking about before that tangent? Oh yes, well as you can see, I clearly know my topics, so I’m pretty much the ideal tutor on all things phantom or Les Mis (though I do know considerably more about poto…).

I learned this again yesterday as I educated dawn on the subject of les mis (gleefully). I mean, it’s an ideal play. beautiful, uplifting, EPIC music, a huge cast of incredibly developed characters, lots of tragedy, loss, triumph, redemption, and so many things that a history nut can enjoy because holy crap it’s the ultimate historical fiction.

So I apologize for getting super distracted halfway through, I’m just having a lot of emotions right now and little sleep. Oh god I love musicals.

Guys, this is me at my simplest form. This is how I got my start in fangirling. This is the OP rantinga phanel. and yes, I’m keeping the pseudonym. I like it it’s classy.
